Happy New Year’s

I can not wait for 2014!  Maybe more than I have in  past years. 2013 has been a year full of ups and downs but when I look back at the year I have to say all the downs have been really positive. I started 2013 with a bang and spent the next 6 months running around with my head cut off. In July I decided things needed to change as I was not at my top performance. So I a took a deep breath and made some changes.

The changes have been super positive in my world and let me clear my head and I was able to tackle some things personally and for my business.  One accomplishments that I am really  proud is I started training last summer for a 50K mountain bike race. I raced it together with my husband in Lake Placid NY,  it was so nice to work together with him on a goal. When I started I was so out of shape for biking after not being on a mountain bike since before I had my son (7 years ago) I had my work cut out for me.I was not sure it was possible to be in race shape in 2. months. I am happy to report that we finished 2 in our class and I did it. My son started kindergarten this past fall and that was a big realty shocker  for me that he is in school and not a baby any more. So I been try to spend more quality time with him and making it count.

On the business side I have a taken a deep look at my business and started changing some ways of doing things that seemed to be out of date and get really organized and put procedures in place. I have been looking at the way I have been charging my fees and coming up with some alternatives that I hope will benefit everyone. It is a still a work in progress and some times I get over whelmed and bogged down but taken a step back and a deep breath seems to be working.

I thank my lucky stars for all the wonderful clients that I get to work with. I  worked and started some really great projects in 2013 and will be finishing up some of those projects towards the  beginning of 2014 and I can’t wait to see the finish results. One of my big projects that will be finished in the next few weeks that is Tailwater Lodge. I have been working on since Tailwater since 2012 and I am ready to see the final product.

A few of this year highlights were meeting Alice Patterson and collaborating with her on photographing some of my work. Alice is amazing and extremely talented and look forward to working on more projects in the new year. Having Erin from House of Turquoise feature a dining room that we did. And of course all my clients who let me work with them.

In the next few weeks I will be letting everyone in on another project that I have been working on for the past 6 months that is a little different.

Historic approach to design

I am working with the loveliest client who owns a  wonderful old 1900’s home in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The house is actually a dream as it really has not been touch,  we think the original paint is still  in many of the rooms. The house has one the best butler’s pantry I have ever seen and I can’t wait to get my hand on it but that’s another day.  The jumping  off point is  the dining room and foyer. We are trying to keep the historic integrity of the home but add some pop and life that reflects the home owners personality.

This is what I am working with

Entrance/ foyer

This is what I am proposing:

My client’s favorite color is purple, she loves toile and mixing fabrics is her idea of perfection.

What we  are planning in the dining room: Aubergine walls that are highlighted with lots of trim color( soft white) and just a hint of a color that is similar to radiant orchid. Dramatic window Treatments will be sunshine yellow silk drapery panels that look like ball gowns. The toile and plaid fabrics will be made into darling chair covers and a pale lavender rug will tie things together.

The foyer will tie in the yellow either in a lovely wallpaper or paint on the walls.

This photo below show the 2nd scheme that I presented to her at the same time as the above. The  scheme  has similar  principals to the above but a safer color choice with soft blue on the walls, purple silk draperies, purple toile for chair covers and brings the duck egg blue  into the foyer with an amazing large scale damask.

She has chosen the more daring scheme and I will share more as we progress through the design process.

Before and After Farmhouse Kitchen

Love before and after photos, we just finished this farmhouse kitchen remodel and what a difference!

Chriaty Buchika of Elan Interiors

Here was the space before:

We knocked out the wrap island and lengthened the cabinets to the door. We added a custom Island that has seating on one side. It completely opens the space up which before was too choppy. Too save a small amount of costs we were able to reuse the bottom cabinets carcass and install new inset doors and drawers. We did new upper cabinets to get the height that we needed. I always dislike when the upper cabinets do not go to the ceiling, it just looks like part of your cabinet is missing.

All cabinets were custom by http://timbermountainwoodcraft.com . Andy also did the wood countertops which are amazing, Island countertop is Carrera Marble.

Amazing clients and Wallpaper that I can’t keep secret.

I am working with the most wonderful, fun, and creative client, when I showed up at the initial meeting I was so thrilled because their home was an interior designers dream. The owner and I clicked immediately especially since she is a fellow letterpress junkie and has her own paper business.

The house is new construction with amazing bones~ great lighting, tile, cabinetry and layout. You are asking why they brought me in?  The house was void of any color, pattern, and furniture and she was craving graphic prints. They had be living that way for over a year.

I was thrilled to be working with them and the ideas were flowing. Back at my studio I had to rein in all the ideas and create an overall scheme for their entire first floor. This design scheme that we presented to them  has become our design bible, it included a design board and a working booking with all the items that would make fantastic and cohesive design. We can look back at it and make sure we are on track even if we are not using all the exact products that I originally specified.

Fabric that was presented

And here is a sneak peak, the wallpaper is just amazing and has put life into the spaces. I just can’t keep it a secret here are some quick photos from yesterday’s installation.

Adding the Chevron runner gave it a modern twist to all the traditional aspect of the table settings. Lovely flowers in green and blue done by my favorite florist Whistlestop.

2. Art- Fun and cheerful art can completely change the vibe of a room.

3. Area Rugs- Layering rugs in bright colors and patterns are another easy way to change your space for spring, weather you change out or layer on top of an existing rug.

Indoor/Outdoor Cotton, Wool, Area Rugs and More!

4. Accessories- Best thing to do is start with a clean slate take out everything in your room. Find things that you love and add them back one at a time. Try to pair like colors and adding spring specific and lighter color will help transform your space for a seasonal feel.

Butterfly Tray

5. Window Treatments- Love window treatments they change the look of an entire room. Usually for spring or summer simpler it better if you have a valance with panels take down the panels. I love the look of layers on a window weather it is a roman shade , woven blind, or blinds keep that look for the spring and summer than for the fall and winter add panels. If you want to keep your panels think about changing them out for a lighter feel fabrics light linen and cotton.

If you need help with any of these ideas give us a call we would be more than happy to help.

Poolsbrook Kitchen

Wanted to share this great kitchen remodel that we just completed. Our clients are the sweetest couple who decided it was time for an up grade.

We choose a beautiful off white/gray color cabinet with the most amazing solid quartz countertop. They had a inspiration photo that we worked from and found some amazing lights and backsplash tile to pull everything together. They were very insistent on pulling the outdoors in, we were able to add some color with the window treatments and art.
